SINGITA COMMUNITY CULINARY SCHOOL ( SCCS) GRADUATION, December 6, 2024

SINGITA COMMUNITY CULINARY SCHOOL ( SCCS) GRADUATION, December 6, 2024
The 6th of December 2024 marks the 3rd Graduation of Singita Community Culinary School Students, which took place at Muhabura Integrated Polytechnic College (MIPC), in Musanze town.
Singita Community Culinary School is an initiative of Singita Management Company, a Company currently managing different properties, lodges, and Reserves across 5 African countries (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, and recently Botswana).
Three SCCS have been opened now: one in South Africa in 2007, one in Tanzania in 2015, and one in Rwanda, at Singita Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda in 2021. In Rwanda, Singita Community Culinary School is managed in partnership between Singita and MIPC.
SCCS is one of Singita’s flagship Community partnerships, for achieving the long-term community development goal of assisting the families living around the reserves where Singita operates. Students from local communities are selected to participate in an intensive 18-month chef development course, including 12 months of an intensive theory and practical-based learning experience, followed by a six-month work internship in Singita kitchens, or with industry partners.
SCCS offers an international program, whereby Prue Leith Culinary Institute is the SCCS‘s leading Academic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Partner, and students graduate with an internationally recognized City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery. In addition, graduates complete the WSET Level 1 Wine, Fire, and First Aid Level 1 Certification.
At Singita Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, 10 students attend this program every year. The 10 students graduating today take us to 30 graduates since SCCS started in Rwanda in 2021. Twenty students who graduated before have been employed in different lodges and hotels, with 25% of them working in Singita Volcanoes National Park’s Kitchen now, and others working in other lodges, hotels, and other hospitality facilities. Singita is grateful for these industry partners in this program, which is undoubtedly contributing to the hospitality industry.
While celebrating the 3rd graduation of SCCS students, Singita and MIPC are happy that the Alumni of SCCS are positively impacting the community, while contributing to the hospitality, and more impacts are highly expected from the graduating cohorts. Let us wish the graduates all the best in their waiting endeavors.
